Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a custom restoration that covers and protects a tooth that has been weakened, cracked, heavily filled, worn, or damaged by decay. Crowns are designed to restore strength, function, and appearance while blending naturally with your smile.
At Winston Smiles Dentistry, we take a thoughtful approach to crown treatment. Our goal is to preserve your tooth whenever possible and create a restoration that feels comfortable, looks natural, and supports long-term oral health.
When Is a Crown Recommended?
A crown may be recommended to:
- Strengthen a cracked, broken, or worn tooth
- Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
- Restore a tooth with a large or failing filling
- Improve the shape, color, or appearance of a tooth
- Complete a dental implant or support a dental bridge
- Improve comfort and chewing function
What to Expect
Most crown treatments are completed in two visits. During the first visit, your dentist prepares the tooth, removes any decay or weakened structure, and places a temporary crown. A custom crown is then made to fit your tooth and bite.
At the second visit, the temporary crown is removed and your final crown is carefully adjusted and cemented in place.
Natural-Looking, Long-Lasting Restorations
Crowns can be made from a variety of durable materials, including porcelain and other high-strength ceramics. Your dentist will recommend the option that best fits your tooth, bite, cosmetic goals, and long-term needs.
If you have a broken tooth, cracked tooth, failing filling, or have been told you may need a crown, we would be happy to help you understand your options.
